China laid rail lines up to Arunachal, 47 tunnels and 120 bridges on 435 km long rail route
New Delhi, January 1, 2021: China on Thursday completed the laying of rail tracks to connect Lhasa and Nayingshi cities of Tibet near the Indian border in Arunachal Pradesh’ Upper Siang district. This information has been given in the news in the official media. The Sichuan-Tibet Railway will be the second railway in Tibet after the Qinghai-Tibet Railway.
It will pass through the southeast of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, which is one of the geologically most active regions of the world. The Sichuan-Tibet Railway starts from Chengdu, the capital of the Sichuan Province, and enters Tibet via Yan and via Chhamdo. The time taken by this train to travel between Chengdu and Lhasa has been reduced from 48 hours to 13 hours.
Nyingchi is also known as Linzhi, which is near the Arunachal Pradesh border. Last month, Chinese President Xi Jinping instructed officials to expedite the construction of the new rail project connecting Shichuan Province and Linzhi. He had said that it would play an important role in protecting the stability of the border.
According to the Tibet Railway Construction Company Limited, which completed this railway route, the train can pass at a speed of 160 kmph. This 435 km long rail route has 47 tunnels and 120 bridges. Construction of this rail route connecting Lhasa, the capital of Tibet and Nayingshi, in eastern Tibet began in 2014. 90 percent of the railroad is at an altitude of more than 3,000 meters above sea level.
