Mumbai, December 20, 2020: Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray today said that he was not in favor of imposing any new lockdown or night curfew in the state as the corona was under control. Addressing the state through video conferencing, Thackeray urged people to follow the guidelines and said that it is mandatory to put on masks for the next six months so that the epidemic can be eradicated.

Thackeray, while addressing the state’s public through social media, said that the experts are in favor of re-enacting the night curfew or second lockdown, but he (Thackeray) is not supportive of taking such steps. The Chief Minister appealed to the people to be vigilant during the New Year celebrations. He said that the spread of coronavirus infection in the state has not been completely controlled, yet the situation is under control.

Thackeray said, “There is better protection than cure. One should get into the habit of wearing masks in public places for at least the next six months.”

He said that those who are not following the safety rules should understand that they are endangering the lives of those following the law.

Appealing to people to be cautious during the New Year celebrations, Thackeray said that a new strain of coronavirus has been discovered in Europe, due to which lockdown has been implemented in many countries because there was no other option.

The Chief Minister said that gradually life is returning back on track in the state, but there is a problem in reopening the schools.

Reacting to the BJP’s call of them as arrogant, Thackeray said, “This arrogance is for the welfare of Mumbai and Maharashtra.”

He said, “Governments will come and go, but this step is for the people and generations to come.”

Thackeray said that his government is transparent in releasing data related to cases of Covid-19 in the state and deaths of infected people.
