Pune: India’s First Waqf Liaison Centre To Be Inaugurated By Minister Nawab Malik
Pune, December 16, 2020: India’s first Waqf Liaison Centre (WLC) set up by Pune-based philanthropist Fareed Tungekar under the aegis of Maharashtra Waqf Liberation and Protection Task Force, will be inaugurated by Maharashtra Minister for Minority Affairs Nawab Malik at Hindustan House in Kondhwa on December 18 at 4 pm.
The WLC has been set up with the objective of socio-educational empowerment of the Muslim community along with all other communities in need where the special focus will be laid on establishing of schools, colleges and universities. The WLC which has top retired bureaucrats and lawyers on its panel will help the state government in strengthening Waqf boards and will work closely with the central government too for the preservation of Waqf in the national interest.
WLC Co-coordinator Saleem Mulla said that the institute will work with all NGOs and citizens organization for Waqf protection, documentation and research for the development of the country.
The WLC will be guided by a number of luminaries belonging to various sections of the society under the guidance of Former Chief Commissioner of Income Tax AJ Khan. The Maharashtra Wakf Liberation and Protection Task Force is one of the most acclaimed citizen organizations working for Waqf protection in association with the Maharashtra government and central government since 2016. At the request of the task force, the previous state government had sanctioned Rs 100 crore and 100 acres for the development of National Skills Development University for Muslims in Pune.
The task force has also won a major legal battle for over 44 acres of Waqf land belonging to Alamgir Masjid based in in Kondhwa. The WLC plans to set up its first’s university on the said Waqf land, informed Mulla, who is also the president of Waqf Liberation and Protection Task Force.
