Pune, December 3, 2020: The traffic police are taking action against the drivers who do not follow odd-even rules and cause traffic unnecessarily. The vehicles which are parked wrongly are picked by the hydraulic cranes, whereas the towing fees have also been increased. Any person who has parked their vehicle in no-parking areas, will now have to pay fines, towing charges and Goods and Services Tax (GST). From now fines of Rs 460 for two-wheelers and Rs 720 for four-wheelers will be levied.

The towing fees for two-wheelers has been increased by Rs 20 and for four-wheelers by Rs 40. Vehicles which have been parked outside the drawn strips and those which have been wrongly parked with regard to even-odd dates will be fined as per the rules. Against such vehicles, traffic police will tow the vehicles with the help of towing cranes. Two years ago, the bikes which were lifted and thrown into the tempo used to get damaged. Such incidents led to disputes between the vehicle owners and the traffic police. Therefore, in 2019, the traffic police gave a contract to a mechanical towing van to pick up vehicles. Vehicles in the city are being towed by Vidarbha Infotech and they are now towed mechanically instead of manual pick ups.

The company charges double for lifting vehicles. At present, one has to pay Rs 460 for a two-wheeler and Rs 720 for a four-wheeler. The charges were increased in September said the traffic police.

New charges of the fines imposed by the traffic police

A fine of Rs 200 is levied by the traffic police for parking a two-wheeler or a four-wheeler in a no-parking area. Initially, two-wheeler towing was fined Rs 200, Rs 200 fine from the police and Rs 36 of goods and services tax (GST) which led to a total of Rs 436. Now, two-wheeler towing has been increased by Rs 20 and four-wheeler towing by Rs 40. The increase in the amount has also led to an increase in the GST. So now for a two-wheeler, you will have to pay Rs 220 for towing, Rs 200 fine and Rs 40 GST. Four-wheelers are being charged Rs 440 for towing, Rs 200 fine and Rs 80 GST which amounts to Rs 720 in total.

“The vehicles which are parked on roads without following odd-even dates, vehicles parked outside the lines drawn will be fined. The towing fee has been increased by the company that picks the vehicles. According to the agreement with the company, the towing will be increased by ten percent per annum”, said Rahul Shrirame, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Traffic Branch.
