Pune-Based Startup Develops A Cost-Effective, Indigenous Surgical Smoke Evacuation Device
Pune, November 20, 2020: Pune-based AoneS Lab has developed a first-of-its-kind, indigenous cost-effective Surgical Smoke Evacuation Device known as ‘AoneS Series 6’, which can be used in an Operation Theatre to eliminate infectious surgical smoke, which is produced by the thermal destruction of tissue of the patient by use of lasers or electrosurgical devices during surgeries.
Conceptualized by Atul Kaluskar, Founder of AoneS Labs, the device comes with multiple level of filtration, UV radiation and Chemical bypass. Providing safe environment to the surgeons, anaesthetist and other surgical team, the device sterilizes and absorbs the smoke in the OT that contains various poisonous elements and carcinogenic, mutagenic, or toxic chemicals like benzene, toluene or xylene and safely releases it into OR/OT or the central suction unit with no adverse effects on the external environment. Covid times call for such devices which are extremely useful for surgeons and Operation Theatre Team.
“Research shows that chemicals found in surgical smoke are absorbed by the patient and excreted through the kidneys. This results in circulation of potentially carcinogenic and toxic chemicals through the bloodstream before being filtered out in the kidneys. While during open surgery the smoke generated around cautery is directly inhaled by the surgeons, thus putting them at risk. I met lot of surgeons to understand their needs and came up with this concept of developing an active smoke cleaning and evacuation system in the OT that contains all bacteria filtering and disinfecting mediums,” said Kaluskar.
According to Kaluskar, even though various expensive devices manufactured by Multinational Companies are available in the market, the indigenous, ‘Make In India’ AoneS Series 6 Surgical Smoke Evacuation Device will be available at much affordable price and negligible recurring expenses.
“We have validated this device from NABL accredited lab certifying the output. In addition to NABL accredited lab testing, we are in the process of CE certification that will be helpful for exports,” Kaluskar added.
