Pune University Plans To Hire Industrial Expert PhD Guides
Pune, November 17, 2020: In order to facilitate ‘expert guides’ to PhD students, the academic council of Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) has approved a proposal to appoint PhD guides who have acquired PhD degrees and ten years of industry expertise as ‘adjunct professor’ and ‘guide’ position in the varsity.
The council has also approved of the proposal to reduce the period for becoming an expert guide for PhD. To ensure, PhD students receive the guidance of higher quality — the university is planning to recruit PhD guides with an industrial exposure from different sectors who can provide them high-quality industrial relevant guidance for the PhD work. Therefore, experts with an industrial experience of ten years will be eligible for the proposed position of adjunct professor. The decision was taken in the lines of the new education policy.
Similarly, those who complete their PhD studies have to wait another five years to get guidance. In such a case, if the person’s dissertation is published in four excellent journals, they will be exempted from the requirement of a PhD guide.
