Pune: Major Operation Conducted By Crime Branch Against Illegal Trades

Pune, November 7, 2020: The Crime Branch of Pune City police has lodged 54 cases against persons for allegedly practising illegal trades and recovered various materials worth Rs 16 lakh from their possession.

This action was taken from November 4 to November 6 as a part of a drive of ending illegal trades in the city. As many as 11 cases have been registered against the accused in Faraskhana, Swargate, Dattawadi, Warje Malwadi, Yerawada, Hadapsar, Bundgarden, and Sahakarnagar area in connection with gambling operations. Police have detained 38 people and seized valuables, including cash and gambling equipment, totally worth Rs 48,755.

According to the police officials, seven people have been arrested from Warjemalwadi, Chaturshringi, Khadki, Yerawada, Hadapsar, Wanwadi for allegedly selling 464 litres of country liquor and 120 litres of palm wine, worth Rs 35,625.

Meanwhile, 11 have been arrested in Bharti Vidyapeeth, Swargate, Kothrud, Chatushrungi, Hadapsar, Mundhwa, Kondhwa, and Chandannagar for selling Cigarettes of total worth Rs 18,174 and tobacco products worth Rs 14.28 lakh.

Recently,1351 grams of cannabis, totally worth Rs 25,500 have also been seized and two accused have been arrested as well.

Under this operation, the crime branch also took action on 12 hotels in Warje Malwadi, Alankar, Kothrud, Deccan, Lashkar, Bundgarden, Koregaon Park, Bharati University, Chatushrungi, Yerawada, Wanwadi, Hadapsar, Mundhwa for operating more than the time permitted.

DCP (Crime Branch) Bachchan Singh said, “We have also filed 2 cases of preparation of dacoity against 10 criminals. Raids against illegal activities will continue in the city.”
