Pune University Will No More Fund New Academic Courses

Pune, September 11, 2020: In a major decision taken in the backdrop of Coronavirus pandemic, Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) management council has decided not to start any new academic course. If a new course needs to be started then it has to be self-funded and no funds will be given from the university fund.

It was noticed that students prefer to take admission in the courses run by the varsity on the campus despite various colleges running the same courses. One of the management members on the condition of anonymity said, “the courses run by the varsity has a very nominal fee. On the contrary college, fees are a little higher.

Another management committee member Rajesh Pande said, “the varsity diplomas/ degrees are for encouraging students for research. But at the same time, we need to look at how much syllabus is prescribed for it and how much is needed? 

“We are not averse to starting of the novel courses. But we want to ensure that these courses are self-funded”, informed principal and management member Sanjay Chakane.
