Pune, September 9, 2020: In the last one and a half years, Pune police have nabbed and blacklisted around 250 foreign nationals for various minor as well as serious crimes. Leave India notice has been issued to 95, while 67 have been sent home.

Youths from different countries like Afghanistan, Iraq, Iran, Nigeria, etc. come to the city for higher education. Many foreign nationals are also known to visit Pune for business, medical treatment, tourism, etc. However, many of these have been found involved in several crimes, especially the illegal sale of drugs. Many are also involved in other crimes like financial fraud, theft, accidents, etc. Many also extend their stay after their visas have expired. The anti-narcotics cell of Pune Crime Branch arrested James Hillary Assie of Tanzania, on Friday, while he was trying to sell Cocaine on Kondhwa-Yewalewadi Road.

According to Mitesh Ghatte, DCP, Special Branch, “considering the nature of their crime, we complete the judicial proceedings as usual, whenever foreign nationals are involved. After that, we contact the Ministry of External Affairs through which, the foreign nationals are deported to their home nations.”
