Two prisoners escape from Yerwada temporary jail, one re-arrested

Pimpri/Pune, June 13, 2020: Two prisoners Arshad Sayyed (age 20, resident of Kasarwadi) and Akash Baburao Pawar (age 26, resident of Kalewadi) escaped from the temporary jail near Yerwada Central Prison, around 5.45 am today. A case was registered against them at Yerawada police station. The temporary jail has been set up in the backdrop of Coronavirus epidemic so that no outsider is taken inside the closed central jail.

Acting swiftly, the Crime Branch of Pimpri-Chinchwad police nabbed Sayyed within 12 hours. After the duo had escaped, Anti-Extortion Cell launched a search for them. Policemen Ashish Botke and Kiran Katkar received a tip-off that Sayyed was waiting for someone at Pavanamai crematorium in Pimple Saudagar. A police team reached there and nabbed him around 5 pm.

Senior Police Inspector Sudhir Aspat, in-charge of Crime Branch Anti-Extortion Cell, said that there are four cases of robbery, theft and dacoity are registered against Sayyed with police stations in Khadki, Bhosari, Wakad and Yerwada.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Sudhir Hiremath, Assistant Commissioner of Police RR Patil, Inspector Aspat supervised the investigation team which included Police Sub Inspector Aniket Hivarkar and policemen Ajay Bhosale, Mahesh Khande, Ashok Dudhwane, Ashish Botke, Kiran Katkar, Nitin Lokhande and Vikrant Gaikwad.
