Sharp Rise in Coronavirus Positive cases in Pune district, 55 new cases in 24 hours

Pune, April 14, 2020: There was a massive jump in new cases of Coronavirus in Pune district today. With 55 new cases, the total number has reached 380 now. 41 of them have been cured while 36 have died till now. Four persons died at Sassoon hospital today.

Out of 380, a total of 316 are from Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) areas, while 42 are from Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) areas, 14 from Pune rural, while seven are from Pune Cantonment Board (PCB) and one from Khadki Cantonment Board (KCB) area.

According to the Maharashtra Health Department, there were 18 deaths and 350 new Coronavirus positive cases reported in Maharashtra today. The total number of cases stands at 2684 including 178 deaths and 259 recovered.

Deaths: There were 18 deaths in the state today. Out of these, 11 deaths were recorded in Mumbai, 4 in Pune and 1 each in Ahmednagar and Aurangabad Municipal Corporation. One person who is not a citizen of Maharashtra also died today. 

Other details of deaths: Out of the 18 deaths today, 12 were men and 6 women. 5 of them aged over 60 years, 11 patients were from the age group 40 to 60 years and 2 were under 40 years of age. 13 out of these 18 patients (72%) had high-risk co-morbidities such as diabetes, hypertension, asthma and heart disease. One patient out of them had cancer and another one had TB. Death toll in COVID-19 patients has gone up to 178 in the state. 

Lab testing details: Out of 46,588 laboratory samples, 42,808 were negative and 2684 have been tested positive for coronavirus until today. 

Containment Plan: As per the guidance from the Government of India, cluster containment action plan is being implemented in places where clusters of patients have been found in the state. Total 5059 surveillance squads were working today across the state and surveillance of 18.37 lakh population was done. 

Other important notes: 1. 259 patients have been discharged till date after full recovery. 

2. Currently, 67,701 people are in-home quarantine and 5,687 people are in institutional quarantine. 

3. A thorough search of citizens who had attended the religious gathering at Banglewali Masjid, Nizamuddin in early March is underway at the level of all districts and municipal corporations. 755 of these have been tested and 50 are positive for COVID-19. Out of these 50, 8 are in Latur, 7 in Yavatmal, 6 in Buldhana, 14 in Mumbai, 2 each in Pune, Pimpri-Chinchwad, Nagpur Municipal Corporation and Ahmednagar, and one each in Ratnagiri, Nagpur, Hingoli, Jalgaon, Osmanabad, Kolhapur and Washim. Additionally, 6 contacts of these cases have been found positive in Ahmednagar and 1 in Pimpri-Chinchwad.

4. Ration provisions to those in needs through the coordination of State Corona Helpline and State Disaster Management Cell: To address common people’s corona-related issues, the state control room is being run at the director office in Pune. After the declaration of lockdown, different issues are narrated by people to this helpline. A lot of these calls are by people working in the informal sector. Owing to lack of money, ration shortage is reported quite frequently. Given this, state helpline coordinates with the State Disaster Management Cell to make provisions of ration for these people. Many of the workers from the informal sector are being helped like this through the local administration.
