Pune girl among 2 dead in Russia as fire broke out at their medical college hostel
Moscow/New Delhi – A fire at a Smolensk State Medical University dormitory in western Russia has claimed the lives of two people, an Emergencies Ministry regional spokesperson told RIA Novostion Sunday. Both deceased are from Maharashtra, India.
According to the External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj, “We have lost two Indian girl students (both from Maharsthra) studying at Smolensk Medical Academy in Russia in a fire accident.
The deceased girls are Karishma Bhosale from Parvati area of Pune and Pooja Kallur from Mumbai.
Some students are injured. They are out of danger. The place is 400 Kms from Moscow. Our team has already reached there. Their mortal remains will reach Moscow tomorrow. We will fly their mortal remains to Mumbai. Our heartfelt condolences.”
Russian Officials said that, around 200 people have been evacuated and the fire has been localized at around 04:37 GMT.
No further details have been reported as to the causes of the incident.
The Smolensk State Medical University has four apartment-type hostels to accommodate over 2,000 students, according to its website.
