Pune : Youth killed 3 yr old girl as revenge for assault by her relatives

Pune, August 28, 2019 : The Bundgarden police station, Pune city police, on Wednesday arrested a 19-year-old youth for allegedly kidnapping a three year old girl, who was sleeping on footpath with her parents, and then assaulting her in a railway coach at the yard of Pune railway station in the wee hours of Tuesday. During interrogation, the suspect said that her relatives and others had assaulted him during Dahi handi celebration, hence he killed her as revenge.

Based on complaint from her mother, aged 20 year old, an FIR in this regard has been registered with Bundgarden police station, Pune city police, against the suspect for offences under section 302 (murder) and 363 (kidnapping) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). Police are also invoking sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act as several bite marks were there on her face.

According to police, the complainant had the child from first marriage and separating from him, she has married another man. She works as domestic maid and lives on the footpath on the road, behind Sassoon hospital, from Pune station to Maldhakka chowk.

Around 11 pm on August 26, after dinner the woman, her husband and the victim girl went to sleep. Around 5 am on August 27 (Tuesday) when the woman woke up she found the girl missing. Meanwhile, cleaning staff found the girl lying in pool of blood around 7 am in a railway coach in the yard of Pune railway station and alerted police. She was taken to Sassoon hospital, where she was declared brought dead.

After the incident came to light, senior police officials inspected the footpath and railway yard. The incident has put a question mark on the security at the railway premises. After analysing CCTV footages, police identified Prathmesh Gaikwad (19), who resides on railway station premises. He was taken in custody from Tadiwala road area.
