Wakad police organises guidance camp for security guards

Wakad – There are about 350 housing societies under jurisdiction of Wakad police station under the Pimpri-Chinchwad police commisisonerate. The security guards were apprised by cops about what to do in emergency situations like life accidents, fire, how to handle CCTV cameras, whom to contact when thefts occur. The guards are not given proper training by the security agencies deploying them.

Police officials said that the main in this area is robbery and burglaries. And at many times the security guards of the societies are on duty even then thefts have been committed in flats. In several cases, the guards are themselves involved. Many companies do not conduct verification of their security guards.

The camp was organised on October 1 in the auditorium of Balaji Society’s Management College in Tathawade, for security guards on the instructions of police commissioner R K Padmanabhan and additional police commissioner Makrand Ranade.

Senior police inspector Satish Mane, in-charge of Wakad police station, informed the guards about various dos and donts. He also said that license is needed for running security agency business but many agencies are working without licenses. The chairman, secretary of co-operative housing societies also pass their responsibilities to the security guards and give them some other work rather the work for which they were deployed.

Sharad Shrivastava (crime prevention expert) also shared his knowledge about the precautions to be taken by security guards during their work. Fire Officer Rishikant Chipade of PCMC fire brigade explained things to do when fire occurs in flat or building. Rony Chowdhary (service manager of Otis company which supplies lifts, elevators) guided them about various steps to be taken in case of accident elevator, lift accidents. Mr Zavar gave information CCTV surveillance in housing societies.

DCP (Zone 2) Namrta Patil told the security agencies about various training they should impart to their guards and that guards should not be asked to do other work at the societies. The guards must note down details of the visitors and their purpose of coming to the society. She also asked the guards not do to time pass on their mobile phones when on they are on duty.

There were about 700-750 security guards and security agencies and their owners, supervisor, 200-250 housing society members, all together 900-1000 population of peoples were present during the training camp.

Shridhar Jadhav (assistant commissioner of police, Wakad), Senior police inspector Shivaji Gaware of Hinjawadi police station, inspector Shinde of Sangvi police station, inspector Sunil Pinjan and other staffs were also present on the occasion.
