YOUNG SCIENTISTS MEET 2018 in Pune

6th Young Scientists Meet was inaugurated on 25 May 2018 by Dr. S Christopher, Chairman, DRDO & Secretary Dept of Defence R&D in presence of Prof (Dr) Nitin Karmalkar, Vice chancellor, SPPU, Shri P K Mehta, DG (ACE) and Shri KPS Murthy, Director, HEMR. The theme of this event was ‘DRDO: Marching towards new India’ in sync of “Make in India” flagship initiative of Government of India. More than 150 young scientists from al the labs of DRDO participated enthusiastically. YSM provided young scientists of DRDO a common platform to understand, appreciate and provide an overall picture of DRDO and facilitated interaction among these young scientific minds for enhancing the team spirit and competitive skills. The events included presentation from young scientist of DRDO on innovative ideas and vision and mission of labs. Apart from this, the scientists also participated in team building activities, health through yoga, youth concert, etc.

In his brief, Shri Mahesh Katore, Coordinator YSM-2018 gave basic idea behind organizing Young Scientist Meet (YSM). Shri KPS Murthy, Director, HEMRL welcomed all the dignitaries, young scientists and highlighted the role of young talent of DRDO in achieving self reliance in the area of defence and reducing the import component by thrusting technological innovation. Shri P K Mehta, DG (ACE) in his address, sensitized the young scientists about the role of good planning in execution of complex defence programs.

On this occasion, a souvenir containing the articles written by young scientists on theme and innovative ideas was released.

In his inaugural address, chief guest Shri Nitin Karmakar appreciated the young scientists and emphasized that innovation is very much needed in a developing country like India where resources are very limited.

Dr. S Christopher in his address stated that research & development (R&D) should come out of labs and help society. He expressed that young scientists should pursue specific need based R&D and focus on development & delivery of highly optimized systems.
