Pune, 22nd April 2025: Pune Metro has achieved a significant milestone by selling over 1 Lakh Metro Cards as of 21st April, reflecting strong commuter preference for its digital ticketing system. Since the launch of the ‘One Pune Card’ in August 2023, which offers convenient, contactless travel with fare discounts, the metro has seen rapid adoption of smart cards among daily passengers. The total sales include 58,277 ‘One Pune Cards’, 23,378 student passes, and 18,389 non-KYC cards, highlighting widespread usage across different commuter segments.

This surge in metro card sales aligns with Pune Metro’s growing ridership, which currently averages around 1.6 lakh passengers daily, underscoring the system’s role as a trusted and efficient public transport option. Digital payments now account for 80% of Pune Metro’s revenue, making it a leader in cashless fare collection among Indian metro networks.

The Pune Metro Card, compliant with National Common Mobility Card (NCMC) standards, provides fare concessions—10% on weekdays and 30% on weekends for regular cards, and a flat 30% discount for student passes—encouraging greater use of public transit. Cardholders benefit from faster access through AFC gates without queuing for tickets, enhancing commuter convenience and supporting environmentally friendly travel.
