Pune Weather to Remain Scorching With No Rain in Sight, IMD Warns of 40°C+ Days Through the Week

Pune, 21 April 2025: Residents of Pune are in for a blistering week ahead, as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast dry conditions and daytime temperatures ranging between 40°C and 43°C through Friday. The weather agency has categorically ruled out any chances of rainfall in the coming days.
According to IMD data, Shivajinagar is likely to experience daytime highs of 40°C to 41°C, while Lohgaon could see temperatures touch 42°C to 43°C, making outdoor activity uncomfortable, especially in the afternoon.
On Sunday, Shivajinagar recorded 38.7°C (0.7°C above normal), while Lohgaon soared to 41.5°C (3.5°C above normal). The night temperature in Shivajinagar dipped to 20°C, slightly below normal, but Lohgaon remained warmer at 23.9°C, significantly above the seasonal average by 3.5°C, officials confirmed.
No Weather Disturbance, Just a Clear Sky Heat Trap
“There’s currently no weather system affecting Maharashtra,” said SD Sanap, a meteorologist with IMD Pune. “We are not observing any moisture inflow, and the skies are expected to remain clear across the region. With these conditions, rainfall is out of the picture for now.”
He further explained, “Clear skies are leading to intensified solar heating, which is why the city is experiencing relentless daytime heat. Temperatures will remain high throughout the week. We advise residents to stay hydrated and limit exposure to direct sunlight, particularly during peak hours.”
City Traffic Thins Out During Peak Heat Hours
The searing heat has led to visibly quieter roads during the afternoon. A senior official from the Pune traffic police told Punekar News, “There’s a noticeable drop in vehicle movement between noon and 3 pm. Most people prefer to travel in the early mornings or evenings due to the harsh sun.”
Despite occasional isolated showers reported in parts of the city last week, IMD officials clarified these were hyperlocal weather events triggered by intense heat interacting with specific ground conditions.
“These sporadic showers are confined to very small areas, often just a few kilometres wide,” said another official. “They don’t reflect a broader change in the region’s weather.”
Heatwave Conditions Grip Marathwada and Vidarbha
Elsewhere in the state, Marathwada and Vidarbha regions are also witnessing above-normal temperatures. On Sunday:
Parbhani hit 42.4°C (2.9°C above normal)
Osmanabad reached 41.8°C (2.7°C above normal)
Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar saw 41.6°C (2.1°C above normal)
In Vidarbha, 9 out of 10 weather stations reported over 40°C, with six locations crossing the 44°C mark. Chandrapur was the hottest, recording a sweltering 44.6°C, which is 3.2°C above the normal for this time of year.
