Mumbai, 20th April 2025: A major update has emerged from the much-talked-about biopic on renowned public prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam. Initially, Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan was expected to headline the film, but fresh reports confirm he is stepping back from acting in the project. Instead, he will stay on board as a producer.
According to a report in Mid-Day, Aamir Khan, who has kept a low profile as an actor since Laal Singh Chaddha, had earlier agreed to play the role of Ujjwal Nikam. However, he has now opted out of the role, shifting his focus to producing the film under his banner.
Producer Dinesh Vijan, who recently showcased the story of a squadron leader in Sky Force, is now turning his attention to this courtroom drama. He is reportedly considering actor Rajkummar Rao for the lead role. Known for his versatility, Rao is a favorite of Vijan and has delivered critically acclaimed performances in past collaborations.
However, scheduling may become a hurdle. Rajkummar Rao is currently committed to filmmaker Vikramaditya Motwane’s upcoming sports drama, where he is undergoing intense physical prep for the role of an athlete. It remains to be seen whether he can allocate dates for Vijan’s film.
Buzz around the Ujjwal Nikam biopic has been strong since last year in Mumbai’s film circles. Nikam, known for his sharp courtroom presence, has prosecuted several high-profile cases, including the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks and multiple murder trials.
Casting confirmation is awaited, but if Rajkummar Rao signs on, audiences can expect a gripping courtroom saga backed by two powerhouse forces—Aamir Khan and Dinesh Vijan.
