Pune, 20th April 2025: Six months into full-scale operations of Pune Metro’s twin corridors, a first-of-its-kind survey conducted by Maha Metro has revealed that five key stations — Swargate, Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC), Ramwadi, Mandai, and Pune Railway Station — record the highest daily ridership.

The survey findings show PCMC station leads with an average footfall of over 18,000 passengers daily, followed by Swargate at 15,000. Ramwadi, Mandai, and Pune Railway Station each serve around 13,000 commuters every day.

Despite this strong response, regular metro users voiced concern over insufficient parking arrangements and limited last-mile connectivity, particularly at high-traffic hubs like Swargate, PCMC, and Ramwadi.

Parking Woes and Footpath Encroachments

Despite Maha Metro’s claim of improving last-mile access at some stations, on-ground issues persist. At Ramwadi, a long stretch of footpath remains blocked by illegally parked two-wheelers, despite clear ‘No Parking’ signs.

Maha Metro’s Response and Future Plans

Metro officials acknowledged the challenges and said efforts are underway to expand parking and connectivity options. According to the agency, parking facilities are operational at key stations like Shivajinagar, Civil Court, PCMC, and Pune Railway Station. Work is also ongoing with Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) to add similar facilities at other locations.

The Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) has realigned some of its routes at Swargate, PCMC, and Ramwadi to integrate with Metro services for smoother connectivity.

However, many commuters say these steps are not enough to match the increasing usage and demand at the city’s busiest metro stations.
