Cyber Police Warns Against Misuse Of Ghibli AI Trend

Dehradun, 4th April 2025: The cyber police in Uttarakhand have issued a warning regarding the potential misuse of the Ghibli AI trend, which involves transforming personal photos into anime-style images using AI tools. This trend has gained significant traction on social media, but experts caution that it poses risks such as data theft and cyber fraud.
Risks and Precautions:
According to cybersecurity experts, AI platforms can store and share facial features and metadata, leading to severe privacy breaches. Users are advised not to share personal photos or financial details on any platform to avoid becoming targets for cybercriminals.
Amit Dubey, a cybercrime investigator, emphasized, “Cybercriminals can use AI-generated images to create deepfakes, which can be used for malicious purposes. It’s crucial for users to be aware of these risks and protect their privacy by being cautious about what they share online.”
Expert Insights:
The Ghibli trend, inspired by Studio Ghibli’s iconic animation style, has been creatively used by law enforcement agencies to raise awareness about various issues. For instance, Bengaluru Traffic Police used a Ghibli-themed video to caution against dangerous wheelie stunts, highlighting the importance of following traffic rules.
Prevention Measures:
To avoid falling prey to scams related to the Ghibli trend, users should be cautious about agreeing to terms and conditions on AI platforms. They should also avoid sharing sensitive information and regularly monitor their online activities for any suspicious transactions.
As Himachal Cyber Warriors noted, “Your photo could be misused or manipulated. AI may train on it without your consent. Data brokers might sell it for targeted ads. Stay cyber smart. Your privacy matters”.
