Pune: Army’s Southern Command Celebrates 131st Raising Day

Camp, 1st April 2025: The 131st Raising Day of HQ Southern Command was commemorated with solemnity and pride at Pune Military Station. To mark the occasion, a wreath laying ceremony was held at the Southern Command War Memorial, where Lieutenant General S P Singh, Ati Vishist Seva Medal, Yudh Seva Medal, Chief of Staff, HQ Southern Command laid a wreath on behalf of all ranks. The ceremony was attended by serving personnel and Civil Defence Staff.

As the oldest and the largest Command of the Indian Army, Southern Command has always played a pivotal role in the Nation’s Defence, particularly in advancing self-reliance in defence manufacturing. Its vast area of responsibility spans across 11 states and four union territories, making it a hub for numerous defence industries and strategic operations.

To mark the Raising Day, Southern Command has initiated a special event ‘Echoes of Valour’, from 29 March 2025 onwards. The event features a Band Display accompanied by a Sound and Laser Show at the Command War Memorial every Saturday, offering the public an opportunity to witness the rich legacy and traditions of Southern Command. Additionally, on 1st April 2025, the war memorial was kept open to the public from 09:00 AM to 08:00 PM allowing visitors to pay homage to the bravehearts.
