CBI Concludes Probe into Sushant Singh Rajput’s Death, Clears Rhea Chakraborty

Mumbai, 23rd March 2025: After nearly four and a half years of investigation, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has reportedly closed its inquiry into the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput and given a clean chit to actress Rhea Chakraborty. The case, which had captivated the nation, appears to have reached its final chapter.
Rajput was found dead at his Bandra residence on June 14, 2020. Following widespread speculation and allegations, the CBI took over the case and examined multiple angles. Sources indicate that the agency has now filed a closure report in connection with two cases—one lodged by Rajput’s father in August 2020 in Patna, and another filed by Rhea in September of the same year against the late actor’s sister and a doctor. The closure report was reportedly submitted before a special court in Mumbai.
Rhea’s Lawyer Reacts
Reacting to the latest development, Rhea Chakraborty’s lawyer, Satish Maneshinde, expressed relief over the conclusion of the investigation. “Rhea had to endure immense suffering, including spending 27 days in jail for no wrongdoing until she was granted bail by Justice Sarang V Kotwal. Despite the relentless scrutiny and harsh treatment, she and her family remained dignified and silent. It is unfortunate that innocent individuals were subjected to media trials and dragged into a legal battle. One can only hope that such injustice is never repeated in the future,” he said.
Case Background
Rajput’s death occurred just six days after the tragic demise of his former PR manager, Disha Salian, who fell from the 14th floor of a high-rise in Malad. Initially, Mumbai Police led the investigation and suspected suicide, though no suicide note was recovered. A preliminary post-mortem report cited asphyxia due to hanging as the cause of death.
Coincidentally, on Wednesday, Disha Salian’s father, Satish Salian, raised fresh allegations, claiming that his daughter was sexually assaulted and murdered. In his plea seeking a CBI inquiry into her death, he alleged that Rajput had been deeply disturbed following her passing and had confided in others about fearing for his own life. He suggested that the two deaths were interconnected and might be part of a larger conspiracy.
CBI’s Investigation and Findings
The CBI had registered an FIR in the case, naming Rhea Chakraborty, her family members—Indrajit, Sandhya, and Showik Chakraborty—as well as associates Samuel Miranda and Shruti Modi. The charges initially included criminal conspiracy, abetment of suicide, wrongful restraint, criminal breach of trust, and cheating.
Rajput’s funeral took place at Pawan Hans Crematorium in Vile Parle, after which authorities launched a high-profile investigation. However, with the closure report now in place, the probe appears to have concluded, leaving lingering questions about the case that once dominated national headlines.
