16th Pune International Film Festival to be inaugurated by

Pune January 10, 2018: The 16th Pune International Film Festival(PIFF) which is held in collaboration with Pune Film Foundation and Government of Maharashtra is all set to kick start from January 11. The inauguration for this 16th PIFF will be done at the hands of Sudhir Mungantiwar, Finance & Planning and Forest Minister, informed Dr. Jabbar Patel, Director, PIFF. The inaugural ceremony will take place on Thursday, January 11 at 3:45 pm at City Pride, Kothrud.

Ramesh Sippy, Hindi film Director, specially known for directing the popular and critically acclaimed film Sholay, Ramesh Prasad, film producer, Chairman and Head of Prasad Studios will be honoured with the ‘PIFF Distinguished Award’ post inauguration for their outstanding contribution to Indian Cinema. Secondly, the prestigious ‘S.D. Burman International Award for Creative Sound and Music’ will be presented to S.P. Balasubrahmanyam, famous playback singer and music composer this year.

A Bosnian film, ‘Men Don’t Cry’, directed by Alen Drljevic which is the opening film of the fest will be showcased immediately after the inaugural function. PIFF will have a special section ‘Raj Kapoor Retrospective’ as an empathy and tribute to R.K Studio because of their recent loss to fire. Randhir Kapoor and Rishi Kapoor will be present at PIFF to handover the most valuable negatives of 23 Raj Kapoor’s movies for preservation at National Film Archives of India.

The 8-day long PIFF based on ‘Youth’ as the central theme will showcase about 200 plus films carefully selected from 1008 films received from across the globe. Out of the films received 14 have been selected for the World Competition Section. Apart from the films, various workshops, seminars and exhibitions related to films will also be held at PIFF Forum said Dr.Patel.
