Pune, 25th October 2024: The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) faction led by Ajit Pawar has nominated sitting MLA Sunil Tingre from the Vadgaonsheri constituency for the upcoming Maharashtra Assembly elections, putting to rest the speculation about the Mahayuti alliance’s candidate from the area.

Tingre, a former Corporator, had won the 2019 elections from the NCP. After the party’s split, he aligned with the Ajit Pawar faction, which is now part of the ruling Mahayuti alliance, including BJP, Shiv Sena (Eknath Shinde), and NCP (Ajit Pawar).

According to party sources and political experts, Tingre remains a popular choice among voters due to his accessibility and grassroots efforts. Despite facing criticism, particularly after the Porsche case, which damaged his reputation on social media, he is credited for his work on various infrastructure projects.

On the other hand, former MLA Jagdish Mulik, who had been lobbying hard for a BJP ticket, was left out of the race.
