Pune: PMC Employee Dies in Road Accident While Clearing Grass in Kharadi

Kharadi, 23rd October 2024: A Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) employee lost her life in a collision with a car while clearing grass on a footpath along the Mundhwa-Kharadi road. The Chandan Nagar police have arrested the driver involved in the accident.

The arrested driver has been identified as Rajendra Gyanoba Dhumal (52), a resident of Dhayari. The deceased is Chaya Mangesh Pendharkar (39), a resident of Kharadi. A complaint was filed by Jyoti Lokhande (37), a resident of Hadapsar.

The incident occurred on Monday around 11 AM on the stretch of road between Mundhwa Bridge and Kharadi village. According to the police, Chaya Pendharkar was a sweeper employed by the PMC on a contractual basis. On Monday morning, while Chaya and her colleague were cutting grass in Kharadi, a speeding car hit her.

Chaya sustained serious injuries and succumbed to them before medical help could arrive. The Chandan Nagar police responded promptly to the scene. The driver, Dhumal, was arrested, and Assistant Police Inspector Mubarak Shaikh is leading the investigation.
