Pune, 23rd October 2024: The Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) has undertaken the Pune Ring Road project to ease traffic congestion in Pune. As part of this initiative, the overall development of 117 villages will be managed by MSRDC, which has been designated as the Special Planning Authority for these villages. The project includes the development of two Economic Development Centers in these areas. A notification regarding this was issued by the Urban Development Department on 10th October.

The Pune Ring Road project spans 172 km with a width of 112 meters, aimed at alleviating traffic congestion in Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad. The tender process for the project has been finalized, and a special company, MSRDC Pune Ring Road Limited (MPRRL), has been formed to oversee its implementation.

In addition to the road project, MSRDC has been given the responsibility for the development of 117 villages impacted by the project. MSRDC had previously submitted a proposal to the Urban Development Department, expressing its readiness to establish Economic Development Centers in these villages under the Pune Ring Road project.

Two Economic Development Centers will be created—one covering 62 villages in the Haveli, Bhor, and Purandar talukas, and the other encompassing 55 villages in the Haveli, Mulshi, and Velhe talukas. These centers will span an area of 668 sq km within the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) jurisdiction.
