Pune, 22nd October 2024: The Income Tax Department has launched a raid on the in-laws of a candidate expected to contest the upcoming election.

The raid is being conducted at the home of Chandrakant Katke, father-in-law of BJP leader Amol Balwadkar, who is rumored to be considering an independent run after a fallout with the party in the Kothrud Assembly constituency in Pune. Since early morning, Income Tax officials have been searching Katke’s residence in Wagholi.

Amol Balwadkar, a former BJP corporator, is reportedly discontent after the BJP announced the candidature of Chandrakant Patil for the Kothrud constituency. Senior party leaders, including Maharashtra BJP President Chandrashekhar Bawankule, had previously visited Balwadkar’s home in an attempt to reconcile differences and dissuade him from contesting as a rebel. Despite these efforts, Balwadkar has yet to confirm his candidacy, sparking speculation within party circles.

Abhijit Katke, a well-known wrestler and the brother-in-law of Amol Balwadkar, also became a focus of the Income Tax raid. Abhijit has made a name for himself in Maharashtra’s wrestling circuit.

The raids have caused a stir in political and sporting circles, coming at a time when Amol Balwadkar’s political future remains uncertain.
