Jio Cinema To Merge With Disney+ Hotstar; Will Jio Cinema Shut Down?
New Delhi, 21st October 2024: Reliance Industry chief Mukesh Ambani can give a shock to Jio Cinema users. Currently, everyone can watch live cricket matches for free on Jio Cinema, but now Reliance’s deal with Disney+ Hotstar is almost complete. Due to this, in the coming days, these two Over-The-Top (OTT) apps can be merged and Jio Cinema can be closed.
Reliance is planning to merge Jio Cinema with Disney+ Hotstar. Reliance wants to establish its dominance in the OTT segment by combining Jio Cinema and Disney+ Hotstar. According to a recent report, if both OTT apps work together, it can also become India’s largest OTT platform. After this deal, it is said that the ownership of Disney+ Hotstar will go into the hands of Reliance Industries.
Reliance Industries wants both its platforms to come under one roof. It does not see good prospects in keeping Jio Cinema and Disney+ Hotstar separate. According to a report by ET, the final draft of this deal has almost been completed. Official information about it can be given in the coming days.
According to reports, the company is also considering other strategies which include streaming live cricket matches and IPL on Disney+ Hotstar instead of Jio Cinema. Currently IPL and India matches are streamed on Jio Cinema.
A few days ago it was also said that after the deal ends, Jio Cinema will be kept for showing entertainment-related things, while sports-related events will be streamed on Disney + Hotstar. The closure of Jio Cinema will be a big blow to those users who are enjoying movies or live cricket matches on Jio Cinema for free.
Users don’t have to spend much money to watch premium content here. Jio Cinema has 10 crore downloads on the Google Play Store. Disney+ Hotstar has 50 crore downloads. The number of paid subscribers in these is also decent.
