DRDO Initiative in Pune Aims to Accelerate Atma-Nirbharta in Defence Sector

Pashan, 19th October 2024: In its pursuance for strengthening the Defence eco-system with increased participation of industry, an interaction campaign was organised by the Defence Research and Development (DRDO) through Armaments and Combat Engineering (ACE) cluster on 18th Oct 2024 at APJ Abdul Kalam Auditorium, Pashan, Pune. The campaign was aimed to apprise and update the industry partners, especially MSMEs and start-ups with the initiatives and policies of DRDO. More than 250 industry representatives participated in the discussions.

Prof Prateek Kishore, Director General (ACE) highlighted the theme of the campaign. Strengthening the supply chain with robust quality systems for development of complex defence technologies, the campaign highlighted the mechanisms of transfer of technologies and availing the test facilities at DRDO laboratories.

The features of ‘System for Advanced Manufacturing Assessment and Rating (SAMAR)’, developed by DRDO in collaboration with Quality Council of India (QCI), as a tool for measuring maturity of defence manufacturing enterprises was discussed. Opportunities available to take up indigenous development of complex defence technologies and indigenisation for import substitute products through Technology Development Fund was also shared. The industry also has the opportunity to collaborate with academia to offer cutting edge products through DRDO Industry Academia – Center of Excellence (DIA-CoE), operational at 15 academic institutes of repute and Defence Institute for Advanced Technologies (DIAT), Pune.

An open house was organised to get the views of industry partners for enhancing and accelerating their participation in achieving the objective of atma-nirbharta in defence technologies and systems. The campaign was attended by Vice Adm.

Ranjit Singh, Director DQRS DRDO HQ, A Raju, Director ARDE, Dr AP Dash, Director HEMRL, Arun Chaudhury, Director, DIITM, DRDO HQ, Dr SE Talole, Associate Director, R&DE(E) and other senior scientists of DRDO laboratories from the city.
