Pune, 18th October 2024: In recent days, crime incidents have been occurring in schools and colleges in Pune. Sexual exploitation and molestation have been reported continuously. Just last month, a minor girl was sexually assaulted in a school van, and in another incident, a college girl was sexually abused. As minor girls become increasingly vulnerable to such predatory behaviour, efforts are being made to prevent these incidents.

To address this issue, all vehicles owned by schools and colleges in Pune are now required to be registered online. The Pune RTO administration is actively enforcing this mandate. Within the next 15 days, all schools and colleges must provide information about their school vans and buses on the RTO website, as directed by the Pune RTO. The education department has indicated that a notice will be sent to any schools that fail to comply.

In one alarming case, a school van driver sexually assaulted a minor girl in the Wanowrie area of Pune. Similar incidents have been reported in other parts of the city. Vigilance is being heightened in response to this situation. Currently, there are 6,000 school vans registered in the city, yet only 60% of their drivers possess the required qualification certificates.
