Pune: Father-Son Duo Cheated Man of Rs 5 Lakh With Fake Job Promise in IT Department

Dehu Road, 18th October 2024: A man was duped for nearly Rs 5 lakh by a father-son duo who promised him a job in the Income Tax Department of the Government of India. The complainant, a defence contractor, approached the accused duo because he was seeking employment in the Income Tax Department. The fraud occurred between December 2022 and March 2024 in the Dehu Road area.

Gaurav Harish Bhatia (aged 43, a resident of Dehu Road) filed a complaint at Dehu Road Police Station. A case has been registered against Praveen Eknath Panchal (aged 22) and Eknath Panchal (aged 50), both residents of Kalewadi.

The charges include IPC Sections 420 (cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property), 468 (forgery for the purpose of cheating), 471 (using a forged document as genuine), and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention).

According to police reports, Gaurav was lured by the father-son duo with the promise of a job in the IT Department. The accused cheated him by providing a fake appointment letter and collecting Rs 4,78,700 from him, both in cash and through online transactions over time.
