Pimpri Chinchwad: Election Returning Officer Appointment Delayed For Maharashtra’s Largest Constituency

Pimpri Chinchwad, 17th October 2024: The Election Returning Officer for the Chinchwad Constituency, which has the largest number of voters in Maharashtra, has not yet been appointed for the upcoming Legislative Assembly election. As a result, Assistant Election Returning Officers are handling all the responsibilities. The schedule for the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly Elections was announced by the Election Commission of India (ECI) on Tuesday, and the acceptance of applications will begin on 22nd October.

Election Returning Officers have been appointed for all other constituencies in Maharashtra. Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation’s (PCMC) Deputy Commissioner of the General Administration Department, Vitthal Joshi, was designated as the Election Returning Officer for the Chinchwad Constituency. However, he is currently on medical leave for two months, and no replacement has been appointed yet. Chinchwad is the largest constituency in the state, with 6,55,370 votes and 564 polling stations. Despite two days having passed since the implementation of the code of conduct, the Election Returning Officer for Chinchwad has not yet been appointed.
