Pune Rural Police Bust Rs 10,000 Liquor Smuggling In Junnar During Checkpoint

Junnar, 17th October 2024: During a routine police checkpoint in Junnar Taluka’s Otur, a pickup truck, supposedly carrying milk, was stopped for inspection. Approximately Rs 10,000 worth of hand-kilned, country-made liquor was found inside. The checkpoint was on the Ahmednagar-Kalyan Highway as part of the Code of Conduct for the upcoming Maharashtra Legislative Assembly Elections.

According to Assistant Police Inspector LG Thate, in charge of Otur Police Station, a checkpoint had been set up in the jurisdiction yesterday. Around 10:00 AM, a pickup milk tempo approached and was stopped by police due to its suspicious appearance. Upon inspection, hand-kilned, country-made liquor was discovered.

The driver, Dattatraya Kale, was interrogated, and a case has been registered against him under the relevant sections of the Maharashtra Prohibition Act of 1949. Liquor worth Rs 10,000 and the pickup truck, valued at Rs 4.50 lakh, were seized. Police Inspector L.G. Thate is investigating the matter further.
