Pune, 17th October 2024: A preference for colleges tied up with private coaching classes, along with a growing tendency to seek admission in colleges outside the municipal limits that are less strict about class attendance, has resulted in 34.92% of Class 11 seats remaining vacant in the central admission process.

A total of 1,03,839 students registered online for Class 11 admission, with 1,20,805 seats available across 343 junior colleges within Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad municipal limits. So far, 78,618 students have secured admission, leaving around 42,187 seats vacant. This means that 65.08% of the seats have been filled, while 34.92% remain unoccupied.

It was also observed that 15,940 students who participated in the admission process did not proceed to take admission. Of the 1,04,160 seats available under the Centralized Admission Process (CAP), 69,218 students have secured seats, leaving 34,942 seats vacant.

Dr. Jyoti Parihar, Member Secretary of the Central Admission Committee and Assistant Director of Education, confirmed that the Department of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education has now declared the completion of the Class 11 admission process.

Parihar further explained, “Junior colleges have approved additional units, leading to an increase in the number of available seats for admission. As a result, the number of vacancies is also relatively high. Moreover, many students opt for diploma and ITI courses, which contributes to the vacancies in the central admission process.”
