IMD Issues Yellow Alert for Heavy Rain and Thunderstorms in Pune, Konkan, and Madhya Maharashtra

Pune, 16th October 2024: As the southwest monsoon winds retreat from the state, the influence of the northeast monsoon is gaining strength. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted rain accompanied by thunderstorms in some districts of Pune, Konkan, and Madhya Maharashtra today (16th October).

According to the IMD forecast, moderate to heavy rainfall is expected in Konkan, Madhya Maharashtra, and parts of Marathwada over the next five days.

Today, there is a possibility of moderate to heavy rain with lightning in the districts of Thane, Raigad, Ratnagiri, and Sindhudurg in Konkan, as well as Pune, Satara, Kolhapur, Nashik, and Ahmednagar in Madhya Maharashtra. A yellow alert has been issued in these areas. The IMD has warned of rain with stormy winds, urging citizens to exercise caution.

Light showers are likely in some parts of Marathwada. However, the IMD predicts that the rainfall in Marathwada will not be significant. Farmers are advised to protect their crops and take appropriate measures based on the forecast.

Despite the rains, some areas in the state are still experiencing high temperatures, with Brahmapuri recording 36.7°C, Akola 35.5°C, and Chandrapur 35°C. Citizens are advised to take necessary precautions against the heat.
