Pune: IMD Issues Yellow Alert for Rain in Maharashtra Amid October Heat Wave

Pune, 12th October 2024: While some parts of Maharashtra are reeling under the October heat, other regions are witnessing rainfall. The state is experiencing extreme daytime heat due to cloudy conditions and a persistent heatwave. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted light rain in several parts of Maharashtra, including Pune, today and tomorrow. The returning monsoon has advanced rapidly from North India to Maharashtra but is currently stalled in Nandurbar District.

A low-pressure system over the Arabian Sea has led to cloudy and hot weather across the state. The IMD has forecast light rain for parts of Konkan and Central Maharashtra today and tomorrow, and a yellow alert has been issued for the next three days in Raigad, Ratnagiri, and Sindhudurg districts. Additionally, between today and 16th October, there are chances of rain in 18 districts, including Nashik, Ahmednagar, Pune, Satara, Sangli, Kolhapur, and Solapur, as well as areas in Marathwada and Northern Maharashtra.

Farmers are increasingly concerned about the possibility of further rainfall in Maharashtra in the coming days. Last night, Pune City experienced rain around 7 PM, with weather alternating between sunny afternoons and rainy evenings in recent days. Yesterday, sudden thunderstorms also lashed the city. While the state is witnessing sporadic rain, the oppressive October heat persists.

Yesterday, isolated areas in Konkan and Central Maharashtra experienced rain accompanied by thunder and lightning. Raigad, Ratnagiri, and Sindhudurg in Konkan, as well as Pune, Satara, and Kolhapur in Central Maharashtra, received heavy rain due to favorable conditions linked to the low-pressure system.
