Pune, 12th October 2024: Only 26 students have been selected out of 40 available seats in the general category for Maharashtra’s Foreign Scholarship Program, with just one student included for a PhD.

The Higher and Technical Education Department released a government decision regarding this. Maharashtra’s Foreign Scholarship Program for Open Category Students was launched in 2018-19. Initially, 20 students were selected under this scheme—ten for Master’s degree courses and ten for PhDs. Starting from the academic year 2024-25, the number of students for Master’s and Diploma courses increased from 10 to 30, raising the total number of students to 40.

For the 2024-25 academic year, the selection process for the scholarship was conducted, and the list of eligible students has been announced. For the PhD category, only three applications were received for the ten available seats. However, two candidates were disqualified by the Scrutiny Committee, leaving just one student selected. Meanwhile, 25 students qualified for the 30 available seats in Master’s and Diploma courses. These students will pursue courses at universities in Australia, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, and Ireland.

The selected students are subject to verification by the Home Department. If any discrepancies or false information are found during the inquiry, the scholarship will be canceled. Additionally, if false information or documents are submitted, legal action may be taken, including arrest and the recovery of expenses incurred, with a compound interest rate of 15%.

Students granted this scholarship are expected to return to Maharashtra and serve the State Government, applying their education for the state’s benefit. It has been stipulated that they must provide a bond in this regard.
