Pune, 12th October 2024: In an effort to address the challenges faced by working women in the city, MLA Madhuri Misal of Parvati Constituency has launched the ‘Stree Shakti Punyachi’ initiative. After conducting an extensive survey involving 4,922 working women, students, and homemakers, the initiative aims to provide practical solutions to their daily struggles, with a key focus on public washroom facilities.

The survey revealed that over 90% of women identified the lack of adequate public washrooms as their primary concern. Other issues raised included insufficient streetlights, the need for self-defense training, and the installation of sanitary pad vending machines.

Based on these findings, MLA Misal has announced a plan to construct 100 public toilets for women across Pune city. In addition to clean and safe restroom facilities, these washrooms will be equipped with sanitary pad vending machines and baby-feeding centers wherever possible, catering to the varied needs of women on the go.

“We need to ensure that women in Pune don’t have to struggle in search of washrooms,” said MLA Madhuri Misal during a recent press conference, highlighting the urgency of the project. She emphasized that maintaining these facilities professionally will be a top priority.

To turn this vision into reality, MLA Misal has initiated discussions with key stakeholders, including the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), the District Collector, and the State Government, to secure land parcels for the project.

This initiative is expected to be a significant step towards improving the quality of life for women in Pune, offering them greater convenience, safety, and dignity as they navigate their daily routines outside their homes.
