Pune, 10th October 2024: The Maharashtra state government has sanctioned the establishment of seven new police stations under the Pune City Police Commissionerate, with an official announcement set for Friday.

The Pune city police area spans approximately 1,080 square kilometers. The region has witnessed significant urbanization and industrialization, leading to a substantial population increase. This growth, coupled with the presence of major national and state highways, has contributed to complex traffic challenges. The importance of Pune, highlighted by its multinational companies, cultural and historical significance, and various internationally recognized educational institutions, necessitates robust law enforcement.

The new police stations aim to enhance security measures for the increasing number of domestic and foreign visitors, safeguard various religious sites, and manage the continuous influx of high-profile individuals. They will also support the enforcement of law and order during prominent festivals, celebrations, religious events, and the upcoming elections.

The proposal for these new police stations has been under government consideration. According to a government resolution (GR), the following divisions will occur:

– Hadapsar, Kondhwa and Wanwadi police stations will be divided to create the Kalepadal police station.
– The Bharti Vidyapeeth police station will be split to form the Ambegaon police station.
– The Chatushrangi police station will be divided to establish the Baner police station.
– The Wagholi police station will be formed from the Lonikand police station.
– The Nanded City police station will be created from areas under Sinhagad Road.
– Areas from Lonikalbhor and Hadapsar police stations will be included in the new Fursungi police station.
– The Kharadi police station will be formed by dividing the Chandannagar and Lonikand police stations.

Additionally, the government has approved the creation of 809 regular posts and seven sweeper positions (through outsourcing) for these new police stations.
