Pune: Former Cricketer Salil Ankola’s Mother Found Dead Under Suspicious Circumstances; Police Investigate

Deccan, 4th October 2024: Mala Ankola, the 77-year-old mother of former Indian cricketer Salil Ankola, was found dead under mysterious circumstances on Friday morning at her residence in Pune. The Deccan Police have initiated an investigation, with the exact cause of death yet to be confirmed.

Mala Ankola lived alone in the ‘Adi Apartment’ building located on Gali No. 14, Prabhat Road. The incident came to light when her housekeeper arrived for duty and found the door locked from the inside. Unable to get a response, the housekeeper informed Mala’s daughter, who lives nearby. Upon opening the door, Mala was discovered lying in a pool of blood with a stab wound to her neck.

Preliminary investigations suggest the possibility of suicide, as Mala had reportedly been unwell for the past few days. The police speculate that her illness may have driven her to take this extreme step. However, the exact cause of death will only be confirmed after an autopsy report.

Senior Police Inspector Girish Nimbalkar of Deccan Police Station is overseeing the investigation. “The body has been sent for post-mortem, and we are awaiting the results to determine whether it was a case of suicide or if any foul play was involved,” Nimbalkar said.
