Pimpri Chinchwad: Police Arrest Two Men for Assaulting Officers During Public Nuisance Incident

Pimpri Chinchwad, 4th October 2024: In Pimpri Chinchwad, two individuals were creating a public nuisance by consuming alcohol. When two policemen attempted to intervene, a scuffle ensued, during which they were pushed and beaten. In response, the police have arrested the two individuals. The incident occurred yesterday at around 12:15 PM in Navi Sangvi.

Police Constable Amol Morale reported the incident to the Sangvi Police Station. The arrested individuals have been identified as Sanjay Ashok Salvi (age 60) and Yogesh Maruti Patil (age 41), both residents of Navi Sangvi.

Charges have been filed under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) sections 132 (assault or criminal force to deter a public servant from the discharge of duty), 121(1) (voluntarily causing hurt or grievous hurt to deter a public servant from duty), 216 (false statement on oath or affirmation to a public servant or person authorized to administer an oath or affirmation), 224 (threat of injury to a public servant), 355 (misconduct in public by a drunken person), and 3(5) (acts done by several persons in furtherance of a common intention).

According to police reports, Pimpri Chinchwad Police Commissionerate’s (PCPC) Control Room received a call regarding two individuals causing public chaos at MK Chowk in Navi Sangvi. Two beat marshals from the Sangvi Police Station were dispatched to the location and attempted to intervene. The intoxicated individuals began to push and assault the officers. A backup was called, and both individuals were eventually taken to the police station. However, even at the station, the accused, Salvi and Patil, continued to push and assault the officers. Police Sub-Inspector A.B. Chapale from the Sangvi Police Station is investigating the matter further.
