Pune Railway Police Rescue Seven-Month-Old Baby Kidnapped From Station

Pune, 2nd October 2024: A seven-month-old baby was kidnapped from the Pune Railway Station area. However, the Government Railway Police (GRP) in Pune successfully located the baby. They rescued the infant from Ahmedabad, Gujarat, and arrested two individuals, including a woman. The kidnapped child has been handed over to her parents.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Mohammad Khan Qureshi (27) and Najma Akram Khan Qureshi (25), residents of Rajasthan. The baby’s mother, Puja Santosh Das (28), a resident of Jharkhand, filed a complaint at Pune Railway Police Station.

According to police, on September 17, Puja Das left for Jharkhand with her relatives from Pune railway station, bringing her seven-month-old son along. The accused, Qureshi and Najma, met Puja on the premises of Pune Railway Station and began talking to her. Najma took the child from Puja’s custody to play with him. Taking advantage of Puja’s inattention, Qureshi and Najma ran away.

When it was discovered that the child had been kidnapped from the Pune Railway Station during the Ganesh Visarjan festival, there was an immediate stir. Pune Railway Police promptly launched an investigation, forming three teams to search for the child. A technical investigation revealed that the accused were in the Unava area near Ahmedabad. Following that, the police team travelled to Ahmedabad, where they arrested Najma and Qureshi, safely rescuing the child from their custody.

The operation was conducted under the guidance of Pune GRP Superintendent of Police Tushar Doshi and Additional SP Rohidas Pawar. The team included Police Inspectors Pramod Khopikar, Irfan Shaikh, and Smita Vasnik, along with Police Sub Inspectors Swapnil Waghmare and Sachin Nazare, and Police Constables Sunil Kadam, Anil Teke, Anand Kamble, Nilesh Bidkar, Anil Dangat, Vikas Kendre, and Jayashree Dhakare.
