Pimpri, 2nd October 2024: A woman has died by suicide after ingesting rat poison, reportedly due to tortuous abuse by her husband. A case has been registered with Pimpri Chinchwad Police. The abuse, both physical and mental, was allegedly due to the couple’s inability to conceive. The incident occurred on 13th September in the Vitthal Nagar slum of Pimpri.

The deceased’s 55-year-old mother filed a complaint at Pimpri Police Station. A case has been registered against Gorakh Ram Prasad Jadhav (30), a resident of Beed. The charges include Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) Sections 85 (husband or relative of husband subjecting a woman to cruelty) and 108 (abetment of suicide).

According to police reports, the husband subjected the complainant’s deceased daughter to both mental and physical torture as the couple was unable to conceive. The mental abuse included remarks such as, “You are infertile,” “Even with medication, you are unable to get pregnant,” and “Because of you, our family won’t have an heir.”

The husband allegedly went so far as to say there was no reason for her to be alive and urged her to die, as stated in the complaint. He reportedly did this to pursue a second marriage. Exhausted and depressed from this treatment, the complainant’s daughter consumed rat poison. Although she was taken to the hospital, she died during treatment.

Her mother then went to Pimpri Police Station to register a case against her son-in-law for abetment of her daughter’s suicide. Police Sub-Inspector Mudal from Pimpri Police Station is investigating the matter further.
