Former Captain Gavaskar Critiques India’s Batting Order Amidst Stellar Performance Against Bangladesh

Mumbai, 1st October 2024: On Monday, the Indian cricket team delivered an impressive batting performance on the fourth day of the second Test against Bangladesh at Green Park Stadium in Kanpur. After the second and third days were completely rained out, India needed a remarkable effort to push the match toward a conclusion. The hosts first bowled out Bangladesh for 233 runs and then showcased a formidable batting display, scoring 285 for 9 in just 34.4 overs before declaring with a lead of 52 runs.

During these outstanding innings, India recorded the fastest milestones for 50, 100, 150, 200, and 250 runs in Test cricket history.

While India excelled on the day, former captain and commentator Sunil Gavaskar expressed dissatisfaction with the batting order during a discussion on JioCinema. Following the dismissal of Yashasvi Jaiswal as the second wicket, expectations rose for Virat Kohli to enter the game at number four. To everyone’s surprise, Rishabh Pant was sent in instead, with Kohli coming in later at the fifth spot.

“You are talking about a man who has nearly 9,000 runs in Test cricket batting at No. 4,” Gavaskar remarked.

Pant managed only 9 runs off 11 balls, while Kohli made a brisk 47 runs off 35 balls, featuring four boundaries and a six.

Additionally, Virat Kohli achieved a significant milestone on Monday by surpassing the legendary Sachin Tendulkar to become the fastest player to accumulate 27,000 international runs. Kohli reached this feat in his 594th innings, breaking Tendulkar’s previous record of 623 innings.

Only Kumar Sangakkara (648 innings) and Ricky Ponting (650 innings) have also reached the 27,000-run mark in international cricket.
