Pune, 1st October 2024: The Maratha reservation issue has been a contentious topic in the state over the past few days, leading to frequent confrontations between Maratha and OBC activists. On Monday night (30th September), OBC leader Laxman Hake was accused of consuming alcohol and was manhandled in the Katraj-Kondhwa area. Maratha activists claimed that Hake was involved in a drunken altercation in a public place, with a video of the incident circulating online.

The conflict began when Hake was approached by Maratha protesters on Katraj-Kondhwa Road. The protesters were questioning him about a controversial statement he made regarding former MP Sambhaji Chhatrapati. During the confrontation, some of the protesters alleged that Hake was under the influence of alcohol.

Hake was subsequently taken to Kondhwa police station, where the Maratha protesters demanded that he undergo a medical examination to determine if he had consumed alcohol. Hake was then taken to Sassoon Hospital for testing.

In the preliminary medical report, Hake tested negative for alcohol consumption. However, for further confirmation, his blood samples were sent to a medical laboratory for additional testing. The final report is expected within a day or two.

Following the incident, a case was registered at Kondhwa Police Station against 20 to 25 Maratha protesters based on Hake’s complaint. No case has been filed against Hake at this time.
