Dismembered Body of 29-Year-Old Woman Found in Bengaluru Flat, Police Identify Suspect in West Bengal

Bengaluru, 24th September 2024: New information has emerged regarding the alleged murder of 29-year-old Mahalakshmi in Bengaluru. On Monday, police announced that they have pinpointed a main suspect, although no arrests have been made thus far. Investigations have uncovered that more than 50 pieces of her remains were found in the refrigerator of her one-bedroom flat located in Malleshwaram.

According to police sources cited by News 18, the prime suspect, who is originally from Odisha, had been residing in Bengaluru. Karnataka Home Minister Dr G. Parameshwara indicated that the suspect is believed to be in West Bengal, and measures are being taken to apprehend him.

A blue suitcase was located near the refrigerator that contained the woman’s dismembered remains. Authorities are looking into whether the suspect planned to transport the body or if it had been transferred from another site. The post-mortem examination has been performed, with the report pending.

At a press briefing, Bengaluru City Police Commissioner B. Dayananda noted, “All aspects of the case are being thoroughly examined. The main suspect has been identified, and efforts are ongoing to apprehend him. He is from another state but has been living in Bengaluru. We cannot disclose more details at this time, as it may assist the accused.”

Residents of the Malleshwaram neighbourhood reported a strong, foul smell coming from a nearby residence on September 21. When authorities investigated, they discovered the dismembered body of a woman inside a refrigerator.

A police team, including a dog squad and forensic specialists, assessed the scene and estimated that the murder took place approximately five days before the discovery of the body.

As part of the ongoing investigation, the Bengaluru Police have established six teams to tackle the case, with some teams dispatched to other states in search of additional leads.

An FIR has been filed in connection with this incident, according to news agency ANI.

Further details indicate that Mahalakshmi’s family, originally from Nepal, moved to Nelamangala in Karnataka 35 years ago, and Mahalakshmi was born and raised in Bengaluru.

She resided separately from her husband, Hemanth, in a one-bedroom apartment. Hemanth arrived at the scene after being informed of the tragic incident.

Mahalakshmi worked at a local mall, while her husband was employed at a hermitage outside the city.

The National Commission for Women (NCW) has called upon the Karnataka Police to expedite the apprehension of the individuals involved. They have also requested a thorough and time-sensitive investigation, along with a comprehensive report within three days.
