Annwesa Singh of Pune Honoured at the International Cultural Olympiad Held in Paris

Pune, 23rd September 2024: Akhil Bhartiya Sanskrutik Sangh (ABSS), in collaboration with UNESCO, recently organized the 13th International Cultural Olympiad of Performing Arts in Paris. Kathak dancer Annwesa Singh from Pune delivered a captivating performance and secured second place in the Olympiad. She was selected by ABSS for this year’s event, which saw 170 contestants participate. The Olympiad, held annually, highlights innovations in dance, monoact, folk art, music, and singing.

Annwesa performed Zaptaal, Tintaal, and Tatkaar, showcasing the cultural and spiritual journey of Kathak with a dance based on Ganesh Kavit, composed by Pandit Divyang Vakil. She was felicitated in France by Kathak pioneer Sharmila Sharma and Henry Turner, a former assistant and disciple of the renowned flautist Padma Vibhushan Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia.

Annwesa has been honored with numerous awards for her outstanding dance performances, including a bronze medal at last year’s Olympiad, Nritya Vaibhavi Award, Nritya Shiromani Award, Shri Mahatma Gandhi Rashtriya Gaurav Award, Nritya Vibhushan Award, Shri Hari Nritya Ratna Samman Award, Pillars of Maharashtra 2023, and Best Indian Classical Dancer 2023.
