Pune, 23rd September 2024: The Labour Commissioner of Pune conducted a physical inspection today at the Ernst & Young (EY) office in Yerawada following the death of Anna Sebastian Perayil, a 26-year-old employee, in July 2024. Anna’s mother, Anitha Augustine, has accused the company of fostering a toxic work environment, alleging that excessive stress and overwork contributed to her daughter’s untimely demise, just four months after she joined the firm.

The Union Labour Ministry has initiated a formal investigation in response to growing concerns about workplace pressure in IT and consulting firms. In a letter, Augustine detailed how her daughter’s health deteriorated under extreme work demands, which allegedly went unnoticed by her superiors.

Speaking to Punekar News, Additional Labour Commissioner Shailendra Pol confirmed today’s inspection at Ernst & Young.

Punekar News had previously raised the issue with Labour and Employment Minister Mansukh Mandaviya about the ministry’s action. Mandaviya had assured an inquiry into the matter.
