Pimpri-Chinchwad Activates 2,570 AI-Enabled CCTV Cameras for Enhanced Surveillance and Safety
Pimpri Chinchwad, 20th September 2024: A network of 2,570 CCTV cameras has been activated across the Pimpri-Chinchwad area of Pune. These cameras, strategically placed at key squares, high-traffic areas, and densely populated locations, form a comprehensive surveillance system for the city. Equipped with artificial intelligence, the network is designed to aid law enforcement and provide citizen assistance.
Implemented by Volksara Techno Solutions Pvt. Ltd., a subsidiary of the Krystal Group, the project was given to Volksara by the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC). The surveillance system is monitored and controlled by the Volksara team at the PCMC’s Integrated Command & Control Center (ICCC) in Nigdi. Covering 606 locations across the city, including prominent areas such as Sant Nagar Chowk in Spine Road, Vasudeo Balwant Phadke Chowk, and Chinchwad Station, the network also extends to PCMC Ward Offices, Hospitals, Schools, and other significant spots. The surveillance system includes Fixed-Box cameras, ANPR (Automatic Number Plate Recognition), Red Light Violation Detection (RLVD) cameras, and Pan, Tilt, and Zoom (PTZ) systems, which operate 24/7 to capture extensive footage.
Volksara’s Advanced Analytics system at the ICCC enhances law enforcement efforts, enabling quick responses to incidents. “The AI-powered CCTV surveillance is forward-thinking, promoting community safety and efficient event management. Kiranraj Yadav, joint CEO of Pimpri-Chinchwad Smart City Limited, highlighted that the network has significantly improved traffic management and facilitated faster responses to emergencies. Since its launch, the system has processed 310 incidents, leading to quick resolutions in over 30 cases. The traffic police are also issuing an average of 6,000-7,000 e-challans monthly for traffic violations.
The Smart City project was awarded to a consortium that includes the Krystal Group, with Volksara overseeing execution. As part of the next phase, 730 additional AI-enabled CCTV cameras will be installed, expanding coverage to 925 locations.
