Pimpri, 20th September 2024: The Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has initiated a crackdown on illegal constructions within the blue flood line along the Pavana, Indrayani, and Mula rivers. As part of the ongoing survey, 2,500 unauthorized constructions have been identified, and notices have been issued to the property owners.

The three rivers—Pavana, Indrayani, and Mula—flow through Pimpri-Chinchwad city, with lengths of 24.34 km, 20.85 km, and 10 km within municipal limits, respectively. The blue flood line represents the average flood level of these rivers, and construction within this zone is prohibited.

Due to the city’s growing population, unauthorized structures have been built along the flood lines of these rivers. As a result, during the monsoon season, floodwaters often enter these properties. This monsoon season alone saw two incidents of river water flooding homes along the riverbanks.

In response, PCMC launched the survey and enforcement actions to identify and remove illegal structures. Of the 2,500 unauthorized constructions discovered, both residential and commercial properties are included. The PCMC has already issued notices for the demolition of these structures.

In addition, PCMC plans to clear encroachments and illegal structures built on streams and drains. Following orders from the National Green Tribunal (NGT), illegal constructions along the Indrayani River’s flood line will also be demolished.

Manoj Lonkar, Deputy Commissioner of the Anti-Encroachment Department, stated, “Notices have been issued to 2,500 unauthorized builders within the flood line. The survey is nearing completion, and action will begin with commercial constructions.”
